Life filming - Grief after the loss of an infant

News: Aug 11, 2016

A documentary film workshop led by filmmaker Karin Ekberg is currently being produced. The project consists of a number of documentary films that depict people who lost a child in close connection with the birth. The theme is the difficult and complex grief that these parents are going through.

A tool for processing

The project is intended partly to show and tell about the trauma. It is also meant to serve as a possible tool for grief. Through the autobiographical narrative in the moving image, many emotions can be expressed with higher precision than just by oral storytelling. Taboos may be broken and the participants can channel their grief into something more concrete.

Cooperation between several players

The project is done in collaboration between the health services, the academia, patient organizations and professional filmmakers. The project aims to create a better preparedness and increase the professionalism of support among health care professionals. For example, the project illuminates the role of the parent not carrying the child whose mourning is often considered less acute. Hopefully, the project can contribute to improvements in health care.
The project is ongoing in 2016 and will be completed in August.
