Suicide Day: Human meetings as prevention

News: Sep 19, 2013

Due to the international suicide prevention day on September 10 researchers and practitioners met for a workshop at Jonsereds herrgård.

The purpose of the seminar was to bring together researchers and practitioners to discuss that the positive trend in reduced number of suicides that was seen in the 80’s and 90's now have stagnated. One thing that seems to reduce the risk of suicide is human meetings. What roles have schools, health care and the society? The seminar was opened by Margda Waern, professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry, University of Gothenburg, Sven-Erik Lidman, Professor Emeritus of ideas and learning history, Conny Brandell, priest in psychiatry and church youth (KUM) and Kaj Wendel, MSc.

The seminar was arranged by the Centre for Culture and Health and Jonsereds herrgård, at the University of Gothenburg.
